Size of area

Similar constraints apply to size of area as to product volume, because they are both an expression of tree numbers. The smaller the area, the easier it is to measure the timber, but it departs from silvicultural principles.

As a rough guide, any stand with a width less than twice the height of the mature trees should not be treated as controllable by silviculture, and an arboricultural consideration become more significant.
